1. INTRODUCTION

Compass Church Monterey County ("Compass Church," "we," "our," or "us")  (legal name: First Presbyterian Church of Salinas, California). We love staying in touch with our church family and with friends in Salinas and Monterey County. Text messages (SMS, or Short Message Service) are one of the simplest ways for us to share service times, event reminders, ministry updates, and encouragement.

These SMS Terms of Service explain how our text messaging works, what you can expect from us, and the choices you always have. By signing up for texts from Compass Church, whether on our website, on a form, in person at one of our campuses, or by another opt-in method, you agree to these SMS Terms of Service, our Website Terms of Service, and our Privacy Policy.

Your privacy comes first: we do not share your mobile number or your text opt-in data or consent with third parties, including affiliates or subsidiaries, for their own marketing.

To opt out at any time, reply STOP to any text message from us.

2. YOUR CONSENT

By providing your mobile phone number and opting in, you agree to receive text messages from Compass Church Monterey County at the number you gave us. These messages may be sent using automated technology, including an automatic telephone dialing system.

- Consent to receive texts is not a condition of attending our services, joining a ministry, giving, or receiving any other service from Compass Church
- You may withdraw your consent at any time
- Texts are sent only to people who have opted in

3. WHAT TEXTS YOU MAY RECEIVE

Our messages are meant to serve and encourage you, not to flood your phone. Depending on the programs you join, you may receive:

- Service times, campus information, and weather or schedule changes for the Padre Drive, Main St., and Marina/Seaside campuses
- Reminders and updates for events such as the Annual Fall Festival, Christmas on Main St., Celebrate America, and the Easter Egg Drop
- Updates from ministries you have joined, such as LifeGroups, Women's and Men's Bible studies, Seniors, Recovery, School of Ministry, and baptism classes
- Information for parents about Kids Club Preschool, Compass Kids Elementary, Lift Off Middle School, and C.R.A.S.H. High School Ministry
- Volunteer scheduling and serving opportunities
- Prayer and Bible reminders, and replies to your questions or prayer requests
- Giving reminders and thank-you notes, if you have asked for them

We will only text you about the church, its ministries, and its events.

4. HOW TO OPT IN

You can opt in to Compass Church texts by:

- Checking the text message consent box on a form on our website (such as Plan a Visit, Contact Us, or a ministry or event sign-up)
- Giving your number and consent in person to a staff member or ministry leader, or on a connection card
- Following the instructions for a specific text program, such as texting a keyword to the number we provide

Each text program may have its own sign-up instructions. Please follow the ones provided for the program you want to join.

5. HOW TO OPT OUT

You are always free to stop.

- Reply STOP to any text message, or text STOP to the number the messages come from, to stop messages from that text program
- You will receive one confirmation message that you have been unsubscribed
- If you are in more than one text program, you may need to opt out of each one
- You can also email jasmine@compasschurchmc.org or call 831-422-7811, and we will remove you

After you opt out, you will not receive further texts from that program unless you sign up again.

Reply HELP to any text message from us, or contact our office at 831-422-7811 or jasmine@compasschurchmc.org, and a member of our team will be glad to assist you.

7. MESSAGE FREQUENCY

Message frequency varies depending on the text programs you join and on church events and seasonal ministry activity. You may receive more messages in the weeks leading up to a big event, and fewer at other times. If you join several programs, you will receive messages from each of them.

8. COST

Message and data rates may apply to each text you send or receive, according to your mobile phone plan, including any roaming charges. Please contact your mobile carrier about your plan. Compass Church does not charge a fee for sending text messages.

9. SUPPORTED CARRIERS & DELIVERY

Supported carriers change from time to time, but generally include AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, US Cellular, Boost, and others. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Delivery of text messages is not guaranteed. Messages can fail or be delayed because of factors outside our control, such as network outages, signal strength, or phone settings. For time-sensitive information, such as a schedule change, please also check our website or contact the church office.

10. YOUR MOBILE NUMBER

By opting in, you confirm that you are the account holder, or that you have the account holder's permission, for the mobile number you provide. If you change or give up your number, please tell us at jasmine@compasschurchmc.org so that our messages do not reach someone else. If your old number is reassigned to a new person, we ask that they reply STOP to let us know.

11. CHILDREN & STUDENTS

Text sign-up is intended for adults who are at least 18 years old, and we may ask you to confirm your age. We do not knowingly sign up children under 13 for text messages. For our children's and youth ministries, texts about a child or student are sent to the parent or legal guardian. If a student in Lift Off or C.R.A.S.H. is signed up for ministry texts, it is done with the consent of a parent or guardian.

12. PRIVACY

We respect your information. Your mobile number and text opt-in data are used only to run our text programs and are not sold or shared with third parties for their marketing. We may use trusted service providers to send messages on our behalf, and they may use your information only to provide that service. To learn more, please read our Privacy Policy.

13. PLEASE USE TEXTING RESPECTFULLY

Text messages are not a secure way to share sensitive details. Please do not text private financial, medical, or other confidential information. For urgent pastoral needs, please call our office, and in an emergency call 911. Please also use our text programs in a way that is kind and appropriate. We may pause or end text service for anyone who misuses it or violates these SMS Terms and Conditions.

14. CHANGES & ENDING TEXT SERVICE

We may update these SMS Terms and Conditions from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and we will update the "Last Updated" date above. Continuing to receive our texts after changes are posted means you accept them.

We may change, pause, or end any text program, with or without notice, and we may stop texting you if we believe these terms have been broken or if your mobile service ends.

15. ELECTRONIC NOTICES

You may contact us by mail, phone, email, or our website, and we may send notices to you by text or by the email address you provide. By opting in, you agree that these electronic notices satisfy any requirement that notices be in writing. To receive and keep electronic notices, you need a phone or device with internet access, a compatible web browser, and the ability to view PDF files. You may withdraw your consent to electronic notices, or request a paper copy where the law requires, by emailing jasmine@compasschurchmc.org.
